Due to the generosity of the North Carolina Outdoor Heritage Council, schools interested in participating in the National Fishing in Schools Program may apply for grants in support of their participation. Grants to provide 100% funding are available until the end of 2020 for a limited number of K-12 schools in the state of North Carolina.
Grants will cover the full cost of enrollment: training (for 1-2 teachers), curriculum (both print and online) and equipment (specific to curricula.) Either the "Cast A Lure, Catch A Student" spincasting curriculum, or the "Cast A Fly, Catch A Student" fly fishing curriculum may be selected.
Schools interested in applying need to be willing to: • Participate in "Fishing in Schools" for a minimum of 3 years, beginning during the 2021 school year• Have 1-2 teachers attend a Personal Training or take an online self-study course and pass a certification exam• Sign a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding• Agree to participate in both pre- and post- course surveys for teachers and students
